All About Polymers: A New Site Resource For Seal Material Data

materials landing page

We’re an engineering company, and we share your love for breaking things down to their most essential elements. After all, what better way is there to learn about form, function, and potential performance limitations?

That engineering mindset is what motivated us to create and launch a new website feature dedicated to seal materials. Specifically, the premium polymers we use to make our Bal Seal® spring-energized seals.

Breaking It Down

The new site section, which you’ll find here, describes the four major groups of polymers from which our seal jackets and anti-extrusion elements are precision-machined. Within the section, there are pages for Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Poly Ether Ether Ketone (PEEK), Polyethylene (UHMWPE), and even a selection of specialty polymers, like fluorinated propylene (FEP) and polyimide (PI).

Each page offers a brief background on the building blocks of the material, and icons are used to clearly communicate key properties such as temperature range, media compatibility, coefficient of friction, and hardness. Further down, there’s more detailed information about blends and filler types, and a quick-reference “dashboard” displays more granular performance data using clean, easy-to-read infographics.

Simple By Design

It’s not a college-level course in polymer science, crammed with equations, formulas, and tables. But that’s the point. We created this new resource to give you fast access to the accurate, solid data you need to engineer a better seal that can help you achieve breakthrough equipment performance.

Whether you’re new to the world of sealing, or a seasoned veteran with a specific set of requirements in mind, there’s something interesting waiting for you in our newly-launched materials section. Visit it today, and let’s get the conversation started.
