Bal Seal Engineering Updates Rotary Seal Catalog

Foothill Ranch, Calif. – U.S.A. – September 17, 2019 – An updated technical catalog published by Bal Seal Engineering provides designers with detailed information about how spring-energized seals can be used to address rotary sealing challenges.

The 32-page catalog, titled “Bal Seal® Spring-Energized Seal Solutions for Rotary Applications,” describes how the company’s broad range of rotary seals can increase the performance, safety, and reliability of equipment used everywhere, from deep sea to deep space.

The catalog presents examples of popular seal profiles, with illustrations that depict locking ring and backup element features for enhanced performance and service life. A detailed table describes available seal jacket materials and their performance characteristics, including temperature range, wear resistance, and chemical compatibility. Several types of available seal energizers are shown, and a table provides comprehensive descriptions of energizer materials, including their advantages, limitations, and typical applications.

The catalog lists seal cross sections, which range from 0.016 in to 0.636 in (0.40 mm to 16.15 mm), and inside diameters, which range from 0.030 in to 120 in (0.762 mm to 304.8 cm). Hardware design considerations, including gland dimensions, recommended shaft and housing tolerances, radial clearance dimensions, and suggested surface finishes are addressed. Detailed seal installation diagrams are also provided.

The new catalog can be downloaded free of charge from the company’s online technical library or below:
