Rick Dawson Named President & CEO of Bal Seal Engineering

Foothill Ranch, Calif.  – U.S.A. – August 19, 2011 – Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. today announced that its board of directors has named Rick Dawson to serve as the company’s chief executive officer and president.

Dawson is a degreed mechanical engineer with over two decades of leadership experience in manufacturing and technology organizations. In his new position, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Bal Seal, a privately-held supplier of custom-engineered sealing, connecting, conducting and EMI/RFI shielding components to medical, aerospace, automotive and other industries worldwide.

For Dawson, who spent the early part of his career with an upstart Bal Seal Engineering in a small, Santa Ana, Calif. warehouse, the announcement signals a sort of homecoming. The new president and CEO, who held quality, plant management, engineering and sales leadership positions at the company beginning in the late 1970’s, said that he’s “glad to be back.”

From the very beginning, Bal Seal has played an exciting role in industry,” Dawson said. “The company’s ability to combine the simple, elegant Canted Coil Spring™ with polymer sealing and metal retaining technology has enabled it to build a vast application knowledge base and help manufacturers solve some of the world’s toughest engineering challenges. It’s an honor to be part of that again, and I look forward to building on our success.”

Prior to joining Bal Seal, Dawson served as president of a Southern California die casting company. He holds a BSME from California State University at Long Beach and an MBA from the George L. Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University. He succeeds Rob Sjostedt, an engineer and executive leader who served as Bal Seal’s president and CEO for seven years.
