Bal Seal Engineering Achieves ISO/TS 16949 Certification for Colorado Facility
Foothill Ranch, Calif. – U.S.A. – November 21, 2014 – Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. recently announced the certification of its Colorado Springs, Colo., facility to ISO/TS 16949, a standard that sets strict quality requirements for suppliers to the automotive industry.
A U.S.-based manufacturer of custom sealing, connecting, conducting and EMI/RFI shielding components, the company received the certification following a year-long process that involved an exhaustive audit of the systems it employs to design, produce and deliver its products.
“We’re very proud of this achievement,” said Jesse Flores, the company’s vice president of quality assurance. “Our many automotive customers already know that we have achieved ISO/TS 16949 certification at our headquarters in California. Certification to this standard at our Colorado site further validates our commitment to providing high-performance, high quality solutions and informs the automotive industry as a whole that we’re a credible source for solutions to its toughest engineering challenges.”
ISO/TS 16949 is an automotive industry standard for the development of a particular quality management system that is recognized and accepted throughout the global automotive supply chain. Specifically, it applies to the design, development, production, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. Based on ISO 9001 and certification rules issued by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), it examines a supplier’s process efficiency, product quality and ability to deliver on time.
According to Flores, Bal Seal pursued the certification as a means to further its growth in hybrid and electric vehicle markets. The company’s Bal Spring™ canted coil springs are already used as critical current-carrying components in the charging units of many electric vehicles, and its spring-energized polymer seals can be found in shock absorption and other vehicle systems worldwide.
In order to maintain the ISO/TS 16949 certification, Bal Seal will be required to participate in annual follow-up audits. Flores said these audits will help the company “improve against established performance benchmarks, and ensure customer satisfaction.”
